time for an UPDATED introduction post, since i still have new followers!
so hello friends, I’m Frost, or Frosty, take your pick. i’m an asexual, aromantic non-binary, and i prefer they/them pronouns. this is actually my personal blog, and i have no game/character-specific blogs, but i love MMORPGs, so that just tends to be what i post a lot about, aside from general posts or other games
to make it obvious, i am not an XIV content blog. this is legitimately my personal blog. if you don’t plan on interacting with me even a little bit (such as just slapping a like on a reblog every now and then), please don’t follow me
currently, my main game is FFXIV, with WoW and SWTOR on the side. but i’ve also played GW2, RIFT, and RO, though i’ve largely quit those ones (but i still love my toons and those worlds, so feel free to engage me on them as well). in XIV i tend to be a midcore casual player, while in WoW and SWTOR i’m just straight up casual, but i don’t like Toxic Casuals who love shitting on raiders, so miss me with that, please
i’m also an avid roleplayer and have been for 20+ years now, first getting my start on old school Pokemon message boards in the late 1990s. i’m also a HUGE fan of RPing outside of game, such as forums, discord, tumblr, etc, especially since i work full time and play multiple games, so feel free to give me a poke about that too. i really can only do one-shots in-game. i’m open to both platonic RP and romance RP, but i’m not interested in M/F ships or polyam/multishipping ships
my FFXIV character list can be found here, and contains most of the toons i care about and/or can remember, and one day? i’ll work on getting character lists for WoW and SWTOR? all my characters have tags, though, so at the very least you can look through those if you’re interested
anyway, that’s me, welcome and enjoy your stay
you can also find me on pillowfort @ thefrostflower!
THERE ARE (WoW) THE WAR WITHIN AND (FFXIV) DAWNTRAIL SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
writing tip: searching "[place of origin]ish names" will get you a lot of stuff and nonsense made up by baby bloggers.
searching "[place] census [year]" will get you lists of real names of real people who lived in that place.
I feel like I'm constantly shilling for them but BehindTheName.com, the only baby name site that doesn't feel like it's run by mommy bloggers, includes census-based graphs for dozens of countries/regions (though not all of them go back very far yet)
And you can expand them to see rank, number of babies, and percentage of babies and add a second name to compare. (in 1973 four percent of babies were named Jennifer! 1 in 25!!!)
Also this. Cursed.
@homoqueerjewhobbit what name did you search for your example, and what's going on with Moldova?
Those are the graphs for Samuel. They only have 1 year's data for Moldova right now, so that's why it's a straight line. Similarly, they only have 2 years for Mexico right now. The US goes back to 1880. I'm not sure how much of that is publicly available/translated records and how much of it is that it's like 1 or 2 guys maintaining a website of 27000 names and a finite amount of time to format and upload.
You can't advertise BehindTheName for writers without mentioning the advanced search! You can search names based on cultural origin and usage, gender (including unisex), meaning, and even things like meter and number of syllables, or famous namesakes (you can also see a list of famous namesakes on every name's page, along with meaning, history, related names, alternate spellings in different languages, the above popularity graphs, and more).
I wouldn't even call BehindTheName a baby name site. They have a surname sister site and a random name generator with tons of variables to set that is very clearly intended to be used for fictional characters (iirc it can even generate a cause of death? I haven't looked at it in many years so it might have changed but these things predate generative AI so unless it's been forcefully enshittified it shouldn't be slop). Like, you can use it for baby names, but the website isn't explicitly intended for that purpose. This website caters to us.
wheres seasons greasons
its that time of year again
It doesn’t have to be
its not optional

Becca pointed out to me that in an early episode of Gravity Falls, The Legend of the Gobblewonker, Stan has a licence plate with “Stanley Mobile” on it. (“STNLYMBL”)
Which is rather strange, considering Stan’s full name is Stanford.
I’ve seen theories, or perhaps just headcanons, floating around that Stan is a twin. Stan must have (or must have had) a sibling who is Dipper and Mabel’s grandmother or grandfather. Twins often run in the family, and “Stanley” and “Stanford” sounds like a cute pair of names for twin boys.
I don’t know if those idea are substantiated or not. I don’t know if the family will ever be touched on or if they’re significant at all, but it seems like a pretty weird error to make for the animator to confuse “Stanley” with “Stanford”
Lmao
Wonder if anything comes from this
if any minors are following me
always make sure to start forging parents' signatures on the first day of class. that way, your teachers won't know that you've been forging signatures for the rest of the year
hey I'm seeing some concerned parents and teachers in the notes, and I just want to say:
lmaooooo
